     Patricia L. (Smith) Stapert, 81, of Freedom, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 10, 2017, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.  Patricia was born in Owen County, Indiana, on September 5, 1935 to Clovis and Alice (Bixler) Smith.  Patricia worked at RCA in Bloomington as a stock-handler, and Depaw University and McCormick’s Creek Elementary School as a cook.

     Patricia is survived by her children, Fred Jennings, Brenda (Jack) Long, Charles A. (Donna) Dwigans, Sr., Darlena “Wiener” (Steve) Sides, Annie (Eric) Timberlake, Lora (Gary Carter) Jackson, daughter-in-law, T. Elaine Dwigans, David Stapert, Richard (Crissy) Stapert, Delmar Stapert, Rebecca Eggers, Jerry (Sarrah) Stapert, sister, Alice L. Pursell, 29 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  

     Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph “Bud” Stapert, sons, Ted R. Dwigans, Jr., Joseph Stapert, Jr., daughter-in-laws, Lora Stapert, Robin Stapert, son-in-law, Archie Eggers, one grandson, Charles Allen Dwigans, Jr., brothers, Allen Lyman Smith and Fredrick Lowell Smith.

     A celebration of life will take place at a later date.  Arrangements provided by West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, Spencer.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at

I'm sorry about all your lose. She and my mom were the best of friends back in the day. It's sad to see her gone.

My heart breaks to hear Ms Pat has passed away. I always thought the world of her & have fond memories of her. You're all in my prayers.
